I hear people talking every day, every way,
But when I listen I don’t hear a thing they say. Am I so ignorant, so different That I can’t translate what I hear To intelligible wisdom? Or is the babble I hear Unintelligible to rational minds? I suspect the latter! Whatever it is, is true now, And has been true for thousands Or tens of thousands of years. Either the rational guides human destiny Or the rational sits outside human endeavor; Criticizing, but powerless to guide. Settling for influence, usually minor, Whenever the opportunity arises. I suspect the latter! |
