While reading “A Cry for the Tiger”, December 2011, I couldn’t help but think of the Zanesville massacre, 18 Bengal Tigers killed in one horrible night. Most of my friends thought the killings were regrettable, even tragic, though completely necessary to protect the children. So long as even a threat to a human child justifies the slaughter of 0.1% of the total population of such majestic creatures, big cats and a lot of other things don’t stand a chance.

Note: 0.1% a little low and is obtained from the 18 killed divided by 14000 rounded to the nearest decade. 14000 is based on the estimate by George Schaller of the total population of Bengal tigers, 4000 in the wild and 5000 in captivity in each of the US and China.
