Acceptance                        Morality

"As for Fate: some things happen of necessity, some by chance, and some by our own voluntary actions. Regarding those things which happen of necessity, the human agent is not responsible; regarding by chance it is easy to see that she (fate) is unstable; but what is due to our own voluntary actions is sensible to speak of assigning responsibility and meting our punishments and rewards to moral agents."
Letter to Menoeceus: Fate and Chance, page 54

"Self sufficiency is a great good, not in the sense that we should always avail ourselves of few things, but so that if by chance we do not have plenty, we might be able to find the few things we have sufficient."
Letter to Menoeceus: Pleasure and Pain, page 54
