Shadows in Plato's Cave                            Morality                            Science (Brain)                      Thought Process

Quote below by Neil deGrasse Tyson, a science evangelist as host of a show on the NOVA television series "NOVA Science Now: How does the Brain Work?" ©2011 WGBH Education Foundation, which I viewed at home as a NETFLIX disc. He expresses the "spiritual" materialist view well.

We're so easily fooled by other humans and nature itself, that we need the tools of science to shield us from bias, blunder and delusion. The human brain may linger as the last thing in the universe we ever completely figure out. Our best hope today lies with the neuroscientist. What are mental problems if not impulses that have misfired?

The problem, Neil, is defining the "mis" in "misfired", especially if it is behavior based, or now perhaps "brain image" based. We now can infer "wrong" thought from wrong brain patterns; thus we can fix it so we all think just alike and everyone gets along and is happy and lives forever.
