(again I dated the entry as January, I just can’t seem to leave January behind)

Certainty and Twain: A travel feature article in today’s Sun Times described a toy being sold by street vendors around Venice’s magnificent cathedral. The author opined “Twain would have skewered it, for sure.” I suggest he or she might consider less certainty when conjecturing about some else’s thoughts. In this case it’s not at all clear. I suspect Samuel would have loved the toy, perhaps while skewering the hucksters, then, and if he were alive, perhaps now. Hucksters always congregate where people with money for frivolity congregate. Mark, if nothing else, appreciated the frivolous.
