20120517                                Art as Purpose

The Desk
Journal (J): Oil on oak plywood. Narrative: “out of dimming chaos of energy dissipation, abstraction dams up and concentrates the dissipation, seemingly and locally lighting the darkness while accelerating or worse not even affecting the dissipation which remerges behind the abstraction." I use this desk every day, as both my office desk and kitchen table. It is one of my large art pieces, “stained” with dilute oils with the grain in a way intended to show: the light of life flowing from a source (where I sit), but temporarily deflected by “rationality” represented by the abstractions of tetrahedron, cube, octahedron, and sphere. Deflection is much as a Mercury spacecraft reenters the atmosphere, stacking air (or life) in a dense “front” opposite the flow direction (and a comet tail-like merging back with the flow on the lee side, added August 19, 2016 while transcribing the handwritten journal to digital format, MS Work File)

Loose Leaf (ll): In the loose leaf 3 ring binder notebook are many pages including as shown below: cost tablulation from August when the desk was finished; initial sketches from April (today's entry); and a photo of the finished desk.
