Death                         War

Osama bin Laden’s Assassination: Osama bin Laden was assassinated by Obama and the US (actually by some unknown navy seal) working under orders from his boss and authorized by Obama himself, with, I bet, no dissenting advisors, because he was “an evil” man responsible for the murder of about 10,000 people, mostly American. On September 11, 2011 “we”, actually George Bush as president and commander-in-chief, declared that we will extract retribution, and the rest of humanity was “with us” or “against us”.

Oh, the 10,000 murders attributed to Al-Qaeda were mostly (about 6,000, Iraq, ~4500 and Afghanistan, ~1500) soldiers killed in response to less than 3000 9/11 deaths, and those are just the American deaths, which are far, far fewer than Iraqi and Afghani deaths, and “no American children” (today’s Chicago Sun Times, May 3, 2011, page 15). Headline: “How We Got Him”, the “we” assumed to be? Who? All Americans? Good Americans? Moral people? World-wide? etc.

“Our” military?. I guess because we pay taxes, the “we” is whoever paid their taxes that, in large part, paid for the military operation. So, I guess the “we” could, should include anyone who in the last 10 years bought any product made by any company that paid taxes in the US. So "we" get to dole out retribution for the killing of “our” people (now mostly soldiers fighting other soldiers). And as far as the intended, but not so far actualized, outcome or consequence, how have “we” done?

Well, so far we have killed 10,000’s of people, including women, children, and other civilians, perhaps 100,000’s of people, especially if our very moralistic sanctions are applied. But of course we don’t “mean” to kill the “non-belligerents”; it’s just “collateral damage”. But the generals, if not the politicians, knew (and know) grandmothers, shop keepers, children, and grandchildren would likely be killed in air raids they authorized, under delegation from the president, and the pilots who released the bombs.

And soldiers? Remember the Sun Times attributed all our soldiers’ deaths to Al-Qaeda and their thug leader, Osama. Maybe another 100,000 or so Iraqi soldiers burned alive in their trenches as our viscosity designed napalm filled the trenches before it was “lit” by a later bomb; many fathers, loving husbands and sons were incinerated.

So how indeed have we done? It seems we have bumbled a lot in our goal to “protect” people. We killed (so far) 100’s of thousands of people, including (unintentionally) lots of civilians and children, all to hunt and kill one man who endorsed the killing of “our” citizens. After 10 years of hunting we found and assassinated him. Most of our country is cheering “Hurray!!” But my reaction is mild, but is another chip off the statue of my country as the “beacon of light on the hill” shining the truth into the darkness to lead the willing to happiness.

By using the age old diplomatic tool of assassination (our own terrorism), I think we more resemble just another wanderer in the dark, seeing the truth only where our lantern shines; sort of like the old joke “looking for your lost keys under the lamp post, because that’s where the light is.”

What do I think the 100,000 deaths and public assassination of Osama are all about? A very clear

                                                              DON’T FUCK WITH US

I bet Osama’s lantern lit up a similar patch of truth. In fact I seem to recall he thinks he is responding to our aggression, to us (US) fucking with Islamic culture and corrupting it, and he just want us to take our soldiers and bombers home, or at least out of Saudi Arabia, “his” country.
