Souls                       Epistemology

Reductionism: I certainly don’t know what consciousness is, at least not from a reductionist point of view. But I do know that nobody else does either. To generalize and therefore reduce infinity a little seems to have something to do with some pattern of neural activity, chemical switches for migrating ions. Generalists can reduce that perspective to parts per trillion without being able to synthesize consciousness.

It also seems to be related to response to stimuli, or at least “respondability”. Anyway, I don’t think I need to go that route to learn about consciousness, because my experience of it is by far and away the best teacher I have of my own consciousness. However, chasing the reductionist’s siren's song is a lot of fun and quite insightful.
