Walnut Table: I designed a marble-top table during my early PhD program at Purdue around a piece of marble that Susie had picked up somewhere. I built the table at the end the program out of walnut and structural cypress boards in my Dad’s workshop in the basement of the “farm” at Mt. Summit. I hand-chiseled tongue and groove fittings for the leg attachments. Walnut is easy to chisel tiny shavings along the grain, but difficult across the grain. I still use the table in 2020 as my main front-room table.
