Google NGRAM (left above) shows "gender rights" didn't appear until 1970 and followed exponential growth through at least 2000, when NGRAM data starts to be limited. The other NGRAM's show recency of terms "sexism", "women's rights" (r,above) "african american" and "black american" (r, below) as well as the overall category of "human rights" (l, below). These terms didn't appear until basically 1940 and followed exponential growth thereafter. The terms got a big boost in the 1970's when the baby-boomers like myself rose in power. The NGRAMS suggest a surge in human rights language despite the US or world experience. I suggest the dicotomy reflects a deep distrust in society's ability to ensure equality among people where no equality exists, but more forceful calls for equality as a social goal. This is another example of some people prefering improvement over God's creation, the "other" over "reality". The capitol was stormed on Wednesday by reactions to the equality mandate showing the opposing "other" idea over reality (election fraud). |
