I applaud Mr. Huber's call for parity between Social Security contributions and Illinois teacher retirement contributions in terms of benefits received. However, I assume he will change his position regarding the disparity after he recognizes the mathematical error made in his comparison. He cited 6% social security contributions, while the figure is actually 12.4%, 6.2% by the employee and 6.2% by the employer, or the full 12.4% if self employed. So, rather than Illinois teachers contributing 50% more, they are actually contributing a little more than 50% less, don't you agree Mr. Huber?
