Subject: Neurosurgeon's Coma and Upcoming Class
Mary Lou,
Today at break you mentioned the upcoming class about the neurosurgeon's near-death experience in a coma. It's funny you mention that. I had just copied the two attached articles from the internet BEFORE today's class (the file is in *.rtf format, so any word processor should be able to read it). My sister gave me Eban Alexander's book a few months ago. I read it, marked it up a little, returned it to her, whereupon she lent or gave it to her daughter. Wish I could get back that copy with marginal notes, but I suspect I will just have to re-read a new copy and make new notes for the class which is probably better anyhow. Anyway, when I saw the class "Near-Death Experiience" listed, I immediately signed up. Being my usual self I explored what the internet had to say about the morality of the issue. There is a lot more than the attached, but it pretty well summarizes how this book is a "hot" topic today. I included a few comments posted on-line with one of the articles just to indicate the breadth of issues people attach to death. Most comments didn't address near-death experience itself, but God, science, atheism, evolution, materialism, and every other thing anybody could possibly associate with death or values. It seems ALL comment sections devolve to religion. Those comments I kept (page 3, attachment) seemed at least to attempt to address the issue. They present several "sides" or perspectives quite well. Do you think I should pass around a copy at the class? (if I can remember -- that's a long time from now and I may forget I even copied them, or sent them to you ...... sigh .......) Have a nice day, as all days are. Scott
