Filaments-dark matter, clumps in the universe simulation: American Scientist, January-February 2012, v.100, no.1, p.211

Coral growth lines in my hexagonaria coral
Neural networks
Dark tree limbs against light sky
River basins, ocean currents,
All concentrations against a backdrop of randomness, of chaos

Science and morality bring order to this chaos - impose it with an iron fist of "truth" for the one and "right" for the other.

But filaments are often but two-dimensional appearances of three dimensional membrane foams.

What happens in the membrane-filaments that doesn't happen between them? Information flow? Gravity flow? Fluid flow? It seems from a galaxy's rotation to a bathtub drain energy flows along ever changing and mixing lines, flow lines, turbulent at some scales, from high to low or abundant to sparse or concentrated to dispersed --- energy flows. How is that compatible with clumping? Perhaps shock waves, ripples in time of compression and rarefication intermingled randomly with the responding stuff that is clumping in the membranes. Moiré patterns, if you will. Many dimensional Moiré patterns of interacting emanations from super novae and black holes, which return some of what has been borrowed back to the chaos, but retain a little for the whimsy of the bubbles.

Reality?
  • Is it that set of things we can communicate unambiguously about with others? Or "nearly" so?
  • Or is it that set of things that our fathers told us were real?
  • Or is that that set of rules our fathers told us to use for determining what is real?
  • Or is it that set of things that "we all know are real"? like this pen in my hand and the table on which I write and other such "obvious" things?
  • Or is it all things in God's mind, which may or may not include my mind depending on who I ask, including morality particularly the "right" morality.
  • Or a thousand other ways of defining "reality" that have been offered by the sages of the ages.
All those and many others sound pretty good to me, so I guess I really don't know.

Oh yes, I almost forgot my favorite.
  • Or is it what my, and my alone memory banks including memories of sensations, perceptions, even dreams somewhat agree on with some ongoing arguments among them?
That's ALL I can get to. Is there something beyond that?

Yes, of course, and THAT is one of the memories I can call on.
Can I know what is beyond what I can know?
Not at all, but I can guess. I have that great gift of thought, or perhaps it is the great curse. It seems to destroy everything it touches including the rocks I just polished, albeit in their "natural" eroded or cleaved state.

So I still wonder what "the Isness of the Is is".
