Apprearance and Reality                        Law                        Morality                        Origins

Musing on Morality: The way I observe man’s situation today is as a Romantic. From my vantage point it appears that man has been thrown a challenge by Nature. If he is to survive, he must alter his entire mode of existence, tempering if not abandoning the use of reason, to which he owes both his incredible ability to manipulate and exploit other people, other species, and even the surface of the earth.

He has this annoying habit of convincing himself that what he does must be good. And there’s where the problem comes in for a lot of people have defined “good”, but not many of them agree. Since “all that is not good" is evil; and that which does not agree with good is not good; and that which is evil must be eliminated, therefore that which disagrees with “good” must be eliminated.

“Evil” poses a threat to the established thought-makers' security in their constant struggle for control over other men’s minds. This struggle often pits two opposing goods dedicated to the elimination of each other as evil, and BOOM, a war starts. And now we have a group saying,

“Stop this nonsense of trying to be good by eliminating whatever is evil, and just live freely according to what everyone agrees on is good: namely brotherhood, love, and peace --- then no evil will exist.”

Some within this category even propose that the people rise up and throw off the shackles we wear as a result of our leaders' incorrect, evil philosophies. “Rise up and overthrow the evil establishment” and we are right back to where we started with a lot of words but no conclusions.
