Concept Description

This category overlaps with Soul, Self, or Consciousness as things that might survive death.

Death (Mortality) is this category. It is one of three interlinked concepts that deal with the idea of God: Mortality, Morality, and Meaning, the three MMM's. The other categories in this web site are Morality and Teleology (another word for meaning).

Much of morality and meaning are linked intimately with avoidance of death. Immortality is central to religious meaning of Aryans that came from steppes of Ukraine and Russia and spread into Europe and India and perhaps other religions. "Do good in this life and you will perhaps acheive or at least make progress towards immortality" (Dante's 7 levels of purgatory included)

Immortality is the grandest of all human delusions, from it flow ghosts, gods (proving immortaltity), morality, and meaning. I believe there is no afterlife. This life is all there is.
Epicurus put it, "Death is the cessation of sense perception"

So what is immortality? Right now, this instant! Thank you, God! (oops, I'm an atheist so thanks "random chance") God is a great metaphor for the unknowable. Talking of God,
Jesus put it,       "Let the dead bury their dead"
"God is not the God of the dead, but of the living".

In human imaginings of eternity; in the alpha and omega; in the Big Bang and infrared death of entropic decay about 40 trillions years from now; in mathematics that can conjure infinite perspectives and infinite time; in Language that can conjure afterlife and a perfect triangle.

If Achilles quest is all there is to immortality, then the 1st first two lines of "Damn You God" express my position on death.
